Installation day is finally here — your new energy-efficient windows or doors from Utah Valley Window & Door are about to transform your home. With a little preparation the day before, you’ll help our installers work quickly and cleanly, and make sure your family stays comfortable throughout the process.

1
Step 1 · Before Installation Day
Confirm details with your Utah Valley W&D installer

Even if everything feels set, a quick call a day or two before installation prevents surprises. Our team is always happy to answer questions before we arrive.

  • Confirm the number of windows and/or doors being installed and the expected timeframe.
  • Ask whether your installation will be done from the inside, outside, or both.
  • Double-check the arrival window and whether it will be a one-day or multi-day job.
  • Ask about parking — our crew may need access near your driveway or garage.
💬

Utah tip: Utah winters and summers can be extreme. If your installation falls during a cold or very hot day, ask our team about their approach to minimizing time with open openings to keep your home comfortable.

2
Step 2 · The Night Before
Remove blinds, curtains & window alarms

Window treatments are one of the most common causes of installation delays. Taking them down the evening before saves significant time on installation day.

  • Remove all blinds, curtains, and valances from windows being replaced.
  • Take down curtain rods and hardware where possible.
  • Disconnect or remove any window security sensors — contact your alarm company if needed.
  • Store hardware in labeled bags so reinstalling is easy after we’re done.
⏱️

Time saver: Blinds can add hours to an installation. Pre-removing them the night before is the single biggest thing you can do to speed up your install day.

3
Step 3 · Interior Prep
Clear space around your windows — about 5 feet

Our installers need room to maneuver and set up their tools safely. Moving furniture now means nothing gets accidentally bumped during the job.

  • Move furniture, plants, and decor at least 5 feet away from each window.
  • Relocate valuable or fragile items from the area — vibration during removal can shift nearby objects.
  • If you have window-seat storage or built-ins, empty them and leave them accessible.
4
Step 4 · Dust Control
Cover furniture & remove wall decor

Window installation creates dust from removing old frames and caulk. A few minutes of prep now means less cleanup later and protects your belongings.

  • Cover sofas, beds, and upholstered furniture near the work area with drop cloths or old sheets.
  • Remove pictures, mirrors, and artwork from walls adjacent to windows being replaced.
  • Cover electronics or appliances near the work zone if possible.
🏔️

Utah note: Older Utah homes — especially those built in the 70s–90s — can have more settled frames and extra dust from dry desert air. A little extra prep goes a long way.

5
Step 5 · Family & Pets
Create a safe plan for kids, pets & your routine

Your home will be an active work zone with open windows, tools, and foot traffic. Planning ahead makes the day safer and less stressful for everyone.

  • Designate a room away from the work area for kids to play safely throughout the day.
  • Crate, board, or confine pets in a quiet room — open windows can be an escape opportunity.
  • Plan for noise — expect cutting, drilling, and general construction sounds throughout the day.
  • Let our team know of any scheduling needs (nap times, school pickups) so we can coordinate.
6
Step 6 · Exterior Prep
Clear the outside area around your windows

Many window installations involve outside access — especially for Utah full-frame replacements. Give our team a clear path to work efficiently and safely.

  • Remove patio furniture, potted plants, and outdoor decor near windows.
  • Trim shrubs or bushes if they overhang or crowd the window area — leave at least 3 feet of clearance.
  • Move vehicles out of the driveway or at least away from the work side of the house.
  • Coil garden hoses and store lawn equipment to prevent tripping hazards.

Landscaping heads up: If your window is close to large bushes, trees, or sprinkler heads, let us know in advance and we’ll plan accordingly.

7
Step 7 · After Installation
Schedule a walk-through with your installer

Before our team packs up, take time to walk through each window and door with the installer. This is your chance to make sure everything looks perfect and to learn about your new products.

  • Inspect each window and door to confirm alignment, sealing, and operation.
  • Have the installer demonstrate how to operate locks, tilt-in cleaning features, and any special hardware.
  • Ask about care and maintenance for your new ProVia or Mezzo windows.
  • Confirm your manufacture’s lifetime warranty documentation is in order before the crew leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does window installation take in Utah?

For most Utah homes, a standard insert replacement window on the ground floor takes 2–4 hours per window. A full-frame replacement can take 4–6 hours. Upper-story windows take longer and may require additional equipment. Multi-window projects are often completed in a single day by our experienced crew. We’ll give you a specific estimate for your home when you schedule your consultation.

Will installation damage my walls or interior trim?

A professional installation should not damage your walls. Our experienced team takes care to protect your interior finishes throughout the process. On occasion, removing an old window may reveal pre-existing damage like rot or water infiltration — common in older Utah homes. If that happens, we’ll let you know right away and recommend the best course of action before proceeding.

Do the installers clean up after installation?

Yes. Our team removes all old window and door debris, packaging, and materials when the job is complete. Your new windows come factory-clean and protected by a peel-off film that our installers remove after installation, leaving you with sparkling new windows. We ask that you set up drop cloths over furniture as a precaution against fine dust during removal of old frames.

How will Utah’s climate affect my installation?

Utah’s high desert climate — with hot summers, cold winters, and significant temperature swings — is exactly why we carry ProVia and Mezzo windows built for extreme conditions. Our installers are experienced working year-round in Utah weather. During winter installs, we work efficiently to minimize time with openings exposed, and during summer, we can start early in the morning for your comfort. Just let us know your concerns when you book.

Are your windows installed from the inside or outside?

It depends on the installation type and your home’s configuration. Insert replacements are typically done from the inside; full-frame replacements often require access from both inside and outside. We assess your specific windows during measurement and let you know exactly what to expect — and what prep is needed — well before installation day arrives.
